Who can apply?
First time home buyers in the following professions: Sworn law enforcement Officer Certified Correction Officer (Does not include any secretarial, clerical or professionally trained personnel.) Correctional Probation Officer Firefighter (an individual who holds a current and valid Firefighter Certificate of Compliance or Special Certificate of Compliance from the division) Certified Paramedic Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) 911 Public Safety Tele-communicator, Certified Educators, Classroom teachers, Certified School Counselors, Social Workers, Career Specialists, School Psychologists, Librarians, Licensed Child Care Operators, Childcare Instructors—Employed by a licensed childcare facility, Registered Nurse, LPN-Licensed Practical Nurse, CNA-certified nursing assistant, Home Health Aides—Not statutorily required for certification—works for a licensed-only agency, Health Care Practitioner, Physicians, Physician Assistant, Anesthesiologist, Assistants Certified Medical Assistants, Acupuncturist Osteopathic, Physician Chiropractic Physician, Podiatric Physician, Pharmacist, Dentist, Dental Hygienist, Certified Nurse, Midwife Speech-Language Pathologist/Audiologist, Nursing Home Administrator, Occupational Therapist or Assistant Certified Respiratory Therapist, Licensed dietitian/nutritionist, Licensed nutrition counselor, Athletic trainer, Prosthetist-Orthotist, Electrologist, Massage therapist, Clinical laboratory personnel, Licensed medical physicist (X-Ray), Optometrist, Optician Hearing Aid specialist, Physical therapist, Physical therapist assistant, Psychologist, Clinical social worker, Marriage and family therapist, Mental health counselor. In addition to Hometown Heroes, a program called “Salute our Soldiers” is for veterans. Qualification is similar, but they don’t have to qualify as first-time buyers.

How is the amount of assistance determined?
A. The amount is determined as 5% of the purchase price, up to $25,000.
Is this program available where I want to buy a home?
A. This program is available state-wide throughout all of Florida.
Are there income limits to qualify for the assistance?
A. Yes, income limits start at $120,000 but vary by county.
Are there Home Price limits to qualify for the assistance?
A. Yes, homes price limits start at $420,000 but also vary by county.
Are there any other basic requirements?
A. Yes, one must be a first time home buyer, show proof of occupation. Also, the program is not a gift but rather a 0% interest loan that is satisfied once the borrower pays off the loan of sells the property.
